Sri Lanka: 8 Nights of Cultural Exploration

Day 01 - Arrival

  • Upon arrival you will be greeted by our Tayafinch Holidays representative.
  • Transfer to Habarana: the centre of the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka.
  • Check-in to the hotel.
  • Spend the rest of your day relaxing at leisure.

Day 02 - Village Experience

  • After breakfast, drive to Hiriwaduna for a typical Sri Lankan Village experience. 
  • Enjoy the travelling experience of a Country Boat & Bullock Cart. 
  • Visit a local school.
  • End the tour with a cup of tea at the Wattle & Daub cottage of a local farmer.
  • Afterwards proceed to Sigiriya to climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. (Optional)
  • Return to the hotel and spend the rest of your day relaxing at leisure.

Begin with a walk and make your way toward the  your pick up point for Oruwa (local boat). Make your way a through a banana plantation until you reach the home of a farmer. Enjoy a drink of king coconut and make your way to a bullock cart which will transport you through jungle and paddy fields.

This spectacular Rock Fortress, is one of Sri Lanka’s major attractions. The most impressive facets of the unique complex are the Water Gardens, the Frescoes, the Mirror Wall, the Lion platform and the Summit, which was completely covered by buildings during the period of Sigiriya’s glory.

Day 03 - The second Capital

  • After breakfast carry out an excursion to Polonnaruwa. (Optional)
  • Special Kamatha lunch – Typical Sri Lankan Kamatha lunch by the side of a paddy field. (Optional)
  • Special demonstration of woodcarving in Polonnaruwa will be carried out after the tour of the ancient city. (Optional)

This medieval cityis a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highlights are the Royal Palace, the Quadrangle, the Temples of Shiva, the Lankatileka and Watadage, the Galpotha, the Lotus bath, the Kiri Vihare Dagoba and the remains of a former Temple of the Tooth.

Day 04 - Cave Temple of Dambulla

  • After breakfast, transfer to Dambulla and visit the Cave Temples of Dambulla.
  • Travel to Matale, visiting a Spice Garden en route. Receive a 15 minute head and shoulder massage complimentary by Taya Finch.
  • Proceed to Sembuwattha for a trek. Proceed to the location by tuk tuk.
  • Continue to Kandy.
  • Check in at hotel.
  • Spend the rest of your day relaxing at leisure.

Dambulla Cave Temple
The greatest of Sri Lanka's cave temples. Most of the caves were carved out by hand and some of the amazing array of Buddha statues are still attached to the wall. 

Sembuwatta Lake a paradise like location which is a lake of natural spring water. It is set amongst the sprawling tea gardens, and reflects the environment at its most magnificent.

Day 05 - The Kandyan Experience

  • After breakfast, carry out a panoramic tour of Kandy city by tuk tuk.
  • Free time for shopping in the city. 
  • Visit the Temple of the Tooth relic.
  • In the late evening, attend the Cultural Show.
  • Return to hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxing at leisure.

Kandy, Sri Lanka's hill capital, was a stronghold of the Sinhala Kings. The highlight of the year is the Esala Perahera, when a replica of the relic casket is taken in procession accompanied by exotically costumed dancers, drummers and elephants during ten glittering nights in July/August.

Day 06 - Hill Country

  • After breakfast, leave for Nuwara Eliya.
  • Visit a tea factory & plantation on the way.
  • Afterwards, proceed to Nuwara Eliya for a city tour.
  • Admire the majestic Ramboda Falls along the way.
  • After the tour,proceed to Bandarawela for the overnight stay.

Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya is the heart of Sri Lankan hill country. It is the home of the famous Ceylon Tea and the rolling mountains are a carpet of velvety green tea plantations, interspersed with gushing streams and tumbling waterfalls. 

Day 07 - Beautiful Ella

  • After Breakfast proceed to Ella.
  • Carry out a trek in Ella.
  • Admire the Ella Gap and Rawana Falls along the way.
  • Return to Bandarawela.
  • Spend the rest of your day relaxing at leisure.

A quaint hill side village offering the most amazing view in all of Sri Lanka, Ella is ideal for leisurely treks.  Trudge through tea plantations, temple sites and waterfalls through the day.

Day 08 - National Park Safari

  • After breakfast proceed to Yala. Carry out an evening 4x4 Jeep Safari at the Yala National Park. (Optional)
  • Transfer to Tissamaharama to check in.
  • Spend the rest of your day relaxing at leisure.

Yala is located in the south eastern corner of the island and has the added bonus of a scenic ocean frontage. The terrain is varied flat plains and the vegetation ranges from open parkland to dense jungle. Water holes, small lakes, lagoons and streams provide water for the animals and birds.

Day 09 - Galle

  • After breakfast proceed to Bentota for the beach stay, en route visit the city of Galle and the Dutch Fort.
  • Thereafter leave for Bentota. 
  • Check in at the beach hotel and spend the rest of your day relaxing at leisure.

Galle Fort is a monumental landmark where Dutch and Portuguese colonial architecture have been preserved from the Colonial eras. With new restaurants, cafes, coffee houses, lifestyle department stores, Sri Lankan handicraft stores the Galle Fort has something to offer to each and every explorer who walks in.

Day 10 - Departure

  • Check out from hotel and make way to airport in time to for departure flight.
