Sri Lanka Rocks!
Slip on those party shoes and prepare to boogie! Sri Lanka is known for some great parties like the Hikka Beach Fest and the Electric Peacock Festival where the night comes alive with super music and unmatched atmosphere….
The 'Hikka Beach Fest' gets underway every year in July or August and draws visitors both local and international in their huge numbers. The southern coastal town of Hikkaduwa becomes charged with excitement as the five-day event features local and foreign bands, dancers and the like. The great thing about this festival is that it isn't meant for just one group of people, but can be enjoyed be families, singles, couples and anyone who loves music and fun. Games, trade stalls and fun activities take place during the day time, while the night comes alive with a club-like atmosphere on the beach with the best music and dancing. It's a much-anticipated event every year…
Also drawing massive crowds is the 'Electric Peacock Festival' which began in 2010 and then was held in 2011 to coincide with the Sri Lanka Night Races. The weekend event is a thriller as well-known bands are flown into the country to provide the best entertainment and party atmosphere. In 2013 the festival's rave was Tiny Tempah who took the music world by storm, and rocked Sri Lanka like never before.
We also must talk about the “I love UNA†parties, where the coast of Unwatuna comes alive with a massive crowd of party goers.
So the party life in the island is getting stronger, but what else is on offer?
Well, the famous 'Galle Literary Festival' is a crowd-puller as well. What began in 2005 as a bringing-together of a microcosm of the world's Literary Community, has now grown into a full-fledged event in the southern coastal city of Galle. Held within the Galle Fort, this event sees the participation of local and international renowned authors, scholars, academics and avid readers, and features workshops, Q&A sessions and so much more. The Festival is set to get bigger and better in 2016 with Plays, Concerts, Gourmet Dinners, Children's Festivals and a gamut of events lined up. Usually held in January each year, the Festival means almost all accommodation in Galle is booked way beforehand and it is extremely difficult to find lodging close to the venue as the date draws near. So if you're interested, book your places early to experience an academic and fun event unlike any other.
Hold on! Sri Lanka hasn't forgotten you fashionistas out there either. Every March, the Colombo HSBC Fashion Week comes alive, and is oh, so spectacular! It's Sri Lanka's very own version of the likes of the Paris Fashion Week where major designers from here and abroad, showcase their designs on an exclusive runway, along with the some new and upcoming talent. You could say that this is the fashion event of the year in this tiny island!
Come on, at least one of these events must have your name on it! So make your way down here and share the excitement….
