The Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka is behind the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery in Sri Lanka’s south where the ocean is a popular attraction to locals and tourists alike. The best time to see eggs at the hatchery is the season from October to April where fishermen bring in the eggs they find along the shore. The hatchery carefully buries the eggs in the sand and watch over them for a period of 50 days when they hatch and the turtles are released into the sea during the night hours.
A unique feature of the hatchery is that it nurses injured turtles back to health and even cares for disabled turtles that will have no chance of survival in the wild. Be a part of this beautiful experience by visiting the hatchery and opting to help in any way you can. What a way to enjoy a holiday while making a difference!
