Lunuganaga by Geoffrey Bawa

Imagine retiring for some relaxation at the Lunuganga Estate- the country home of renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa….These gardens are the inspiration behind Bawa’s decision to shift from his first calling as a Lawyer, and become an architect. A wise move, given that he went on to become Sri Lanka’s and one of Asia’s most prolific and influential architects! The gardens now welcome the public and the buildings on the estate serve as a country house hotel.

Brief Gardens by Bewis Bawa

Picture-perfect gardens with a riot of color - ten kilometres inland from Bentota is the Brief Garden. And you guessed it! The house which is surrounded by these gardens is the former home of Bevis Bawa, brother of architect Geoffrey Bawa. Here you will find an eclectic and inventive range of artwork on display from homoerotic sculpture to a wonderful mural of Sri Lankan life in the style of Marc Chagall.
