Itinerary

Day 01 - Welcome to our island paradise !

On arrival you will be greeted by our very own Taya Finch representatives and thereafter transfer to Colombo and check-in at the hotel.


(Standard check-in time: 1400hrs).


Overnight stay at Hotel Wonder, Colombo

Day 02 : The house in 33rd Lane

After breakfast we will conduct a sightseeing tour of the commercial capital of Colombo, where you can witness many historical monuments such as the independence square, old parliament, Old Dutch hospital, Town Hall and a walk through the Galle Face Green.


But before we will first visit 3 important creations by Geoffrey Bawa that rests in Colombo.


Number 11 Colombo Residence which was Bawa’s personal residence in Colombo, now converted as a Museum which combines his usual love for traditional local forms with the start white architectural palate he favored.


Seema Malaka  a Buddhist Temple in Colombo which was initially built in the 19th century which was sunk in to the water and thereafter later redesigned and constructed by Mr. Bawa.


Thereafter proceed to visit his former offices, personally created Geoffrey himself and was one of his favorite properties. This is now converted in to a gallery and a restaurant with a personal approval of Bawa, now known as the Gallery Café which is now one of the most beautiful and awe striking restaurants in the city of Colombo.


You may enjoy your lunch/dinner at the restaurant as this is one of our personal favorites.


(Dinner in Colombo has not been included, as there are many dining options in Colombo and we have given the flexibility for you to decide and make your own arrangements).


Overnight stay at Hotel Wonder, Colombo.

Day 03 : Heritage and exploration

After breakfast, we begin our journey to Sigiriya.



En-route you have the option of visiting the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala.


Thereafter visit Heritance Kandalama, a hotel designed by the maestro in the 90’s which is also considered to be a very important works of Bawa as it clearly showcases his talent for creating affective spatial sequences and architectural narrative.



On completion transfer to your hotel.


Dinner and Overnight stay at Sigiriya Village.

Day 04 : last capital of the ancient kings' era

Breakfast at hotel.


Visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a masterpiece built by King Kashyapa in the 5th Century AD which was also declared a World heritage site as it displayed the cumulative effect of science of town planning, arts, architecture, landscape architecture and the science of water management practices in Sri Lanka in the 5th century AD.


Thereafter proceed to the Kandy.


En-route make a stop in Matale where you will be given an educational tour of a Spice Garden to learn of the various spices and herbs in Sri Lanka.


Once you arrive in Kandy; make a visit to the Temple of the Tooth, a Buddhist temple located in the Royal Palace complex which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. It ancient times it was believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country.


Late evening proceed to a cultural Centre to witness a Traditional dance performance where you can see all the Sri Lankan dance types in one platform.


Dinner and Overnight stay at Hotel Topaz, Kandy

Day 05 : Finest Ceylon Tea

After breakfast conduct a sightseeing tour of Kandy and on completion proceed to the southern beach coast.

 

En-route you can make a stop at a Tea Factory in Giragama where you will be able to witness the tea making process in Sri Lanka. An experience not to be missed as Sri Lanka do make the world’s best tea.

 

Arrive in Beruwala and check-in at your hotel and spend the remainder of the evening on leisure by the beach.  

 

Dinner and Overnight stay at The Palms, Beruwala. 

Day 06 : Historical Galle Fort

Today after breakfast we will drive to Matara to visit the University of Ruhuna, a design done by Bawa.  

 

Thereafter return to Galle to visit the historical Galle Fort. Once built by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th Century. An Archeological and an Architectural monument which even after over 400 years maintains a polished appearance due to extensive reconstruction work done by the archeological department of Sri Lanka. This will be a walk to remember!


Then we will visit the Jetwing Lighthouse, one of the last major projects done by the Maestro that perches on a scenic rocky promontory just west of Galle. Bawa designed the hotels granite walled entrance to mirror the 17th century Dutch Fort while it commands superb views of the ocean from its rock-top perch and comprises a series of interlinked open spaces that makes the most of this unique landscape.

 

On completion transfer to the hotel and spend the rest of your day on leisure enjoying the beach.

 

Dinner and Overnight stay at The Palms, Beruwala.

07 Day : Lunuganga Estate

After breakfast today we will first make a visit to the Lunuganga Estate which was the country home of the late Geoffrey Bawa. This country home was one of his first projects he undertook for his passion in architecture which also led him to realize his lack of knowledge which made him go to England to study and master the subject. On his return the Lunuganga Estate became an experimental laboratory for him, where he worked on it for 40 year until his death in 2003.



Thereafter proceed to Ahungalla to visit the Heritance Ahungalla formerly known as Triton Hotel when it was designed by Geoffrey Bawa where he had used his signature architectural style that erases boundaries between the outside and the inside, resulting a plenty of access to the natural elements.


Afterward visit the Bentota railway station which was also designed by Geoffrey.

 

If time permits, you can make a visit to the “Brief Garden” a great master piece created by BEVIS BAWA who is Geoffrey Bawa’s one and only brother.

 

On completion return back to the hotel and spend your evening on leisure by the beach.

 

Dinner and Overnight stay at The Palms, Beruwala.

Day 08 : Memories

Breakfast at Hotel.

 

Proceed to the airport via Colombo. 


(You can extend your beach stay or book your stay to spend more days in Colombo as you prefer).
